Recording meetings in Zoom

You can record a Zoom meeting as a MP4 video file for later viewing. By default Zoom saves the videos to a sub folder called Zoom inside of Documents folder. If you are using your university laptop, this folder is located on a web drive. This means that the video recordings are not bound to your current computer, so you can find the file on every university computer you log in.

N.B! Zoom captures your camera, the resources you share during the meeting, whiteboard and audio from your microphones, other elements on the screen won't be recorded on the video.

The recording starts when you click the Record button in the bottom of your Zoom screen. While recording you can pause or stop recording as shown on the picture above. You can also see the End Meeting option highlighted, which will end the meeting and enables the conversion of the meeting to a MP4 video recording.

After the meeting has ended a window will appear where you can see the conversion progress. The MP4 conversion is necessary to be able to view the lecture recording with normal multimedia players and video editing tools. It is recommended to let this process finish before logging off or shutting down the computer.

After the conversion has been completed you can find .mp4 video file in the folder mentioned above. You can either upload it to Moniviestin or edit it further with your preferred video editing tool. If you don't need the video to be available more than 180 days, you can use your personal folder in Moniviestin (guide for personal folder in Moniviestin). For lecture videos that are used for teaching we recommend the public side of Moniviestin, which will allow sharing your videos without a time limit and you can adjust the visibility for example with a pathkey (password for viewing). If you want to publish your videos on the public side of Moniviestin, contact the Video Support with this form.

Recording screen capture videos in Zoom

You can create screen capture videos with Zoom, even when there are no other participants! Instructions:

• Open any Zoom meeting you have created.
• Make sure the meeting audio and video settings are properly set up (guide for checking these settings).
• If you want your webcam to show on the video, start the camera by clicking the "Start Video" button - this way the webcam will be shown in the corner of your screen capturing video.
• Start sharing your desktop by clicking "Share" button, after clicking you can select if you want to share the whole screen or only a certain application.
• You can start the recording through More->Record option on the top of the screen as shown in the picture below:

Everything else works similar as described in the Recording meetings in Zoom instructions above - when you end your Zoom meeting, your computer will start converting the recording to publishable or editable MP4 format.
